Pricing Tiers, Discounts, and How They Work Together

WizCommerce handles multiple pricing layers simultaneously, volume pricing, price lists, and discount rules, without requiring manual adjustments on each order. This article explains each layer, how they stack, and links to deeper setup guides for each.

Table of Contents

A. Volume Pricing

Volume pricing applies automatic price breaks based on the quantity ordered. The more a buyer orders, the lower the unit price, encouraging larger orders without requiring a rep to manually negotiate every time.

Example: Wall Mirrors
Quantity Unit Price
1–11 units $120.00
12–47 units $110.00
48+ units $95.00

Volume pricing is set at the product level and works on top of the customer's assigned price list, so each tier of buyer gets their own quantity-based price breaks.

B. Price Lists

Price lists are predefined pricing structures assigned to specific customers or customer groups. Every customer in WizCommerce is assigned to exactly one price list, which determines what they see and what they pay, automatically, across both WizOrder and WizShop.

Example price lists:

  • East Coast Distributor List
  • Interior Designer Program
  • VIP Showroom Pricing

C. Discount Engine

The Discount Engine lets you apply discounts at multiple levels, product, customer, cart, or line item, without modifying your underlying price lists. Discounts can be configured to apply automatically based on rules, or manually applied by a rep during order entry if their role permits it.

Line Item Discount

A discount is applied to a specific product within a cart or order, without affecting other items.

For example, a rep applies a 10% discount to 12 brass candle holders in a larger order while leaving all other items at their standard price.

Cart-Level Discount

A discount applied to the total value of the cart or order — commonly used for volume incentives, seasonal promotions, and loyalty programs.

For example, a retailer placing a $15,000 order receives an additional 5% off the entire order during a seasonal promotion.

Product-Based Discount

A discount automatically applied to specific products or collections based on rules configured in the Discount Engine.

For example, all items in the Spring 2026 Collection receive 10% off automatically — no rep action required.

Customer-Based Discount

A discount tied to a specific customer or customer group, applied automatically when the customer logs in or when a rep selects the customer in WizOrder.

For example, ABC Interiors receives 15% off all lighting products whenever they place an order — regardless of which rep handles it.

Discount rules can be layered on top of:

  • Price lists
  • Volume pricing tiers
  • Customer-specific pricing

This lets you manage complex wholesale pricing structures without manual adjustments on every order.

Tip: See Discount Engine for a full guide on setting up and managing discount rules in WizCommerce.

FAQs

1. Can a customer be assigned to more than one price list?

A. No. Each customer in WizCommerce is assigned to exactly one price list at a time. That price list determines the base prices they see across WizOrder and WizShop.

2. Can volume pricing and a price list be applied to the same customer at the same time?

A. Yes. Volume pricing works on top of a customer's assigned price list. A customer gets the price from their price list, and then quantity-based breaks are applied on top of that, automatically.

3. Can discounts be applied automatically, or does a rep always have to apply them manually?

A. Both are supported. Discounts can be configured in the Discount Engine to apply automatically based on defined rules (e.g., customer type, product collection, cart value). Reps can also apply discounts manually during order entry if their role permissions allow it.

4. Can multiple discount types be stacked on a single order?

A. Yes. Discount rules can be layered, for example, a customer-based discount and a cart-level promotional discount can both apply to the same order, on top of the customer's assigned price list and any volume pricing tiers.
