WizPilot: User Preferences
User Preferences is your personal space to set up how WizPilot works for you. Everything you configure here (your Custom Instructions and your preferred tone) is private to your account and applies to every conversation you have with WizPilot going forward.
This article covers the three-layer configuration model behind WizPilot, and what you can configure yourself through User Preferences.

A. What are User Preferences?
Your organization has its own defaults that apply to everyone, and your User Preferences layer on top of them. So if your team's default tone is Professional but you prefer Formal, WizPilot uses Formal for you without changing anything for your colleagues. Think of it this way: your admin sets the rules, you set the style.
This is on top of WizCommerce's own Base Rules, which apply the same way to every customer and aren't editable by anyone at your organization.
B. Where to Find User Preferences
-
Open the WizPilot side menu and select User Preferences.

Note: User Preferences is a desktop and web feature at this release. It isn't yet available from the WizPilot mobile or tablet app.
C. The Three-Layer Configuration Model
WizPilot's behavior is shaped by three layers, applied in this order:
| Layer | Who sets it | What it Does |
|---|---|---|
| Base Rules | WizCommerce | The fundamentals - identical for every customer. Defines things like what counts as "delayed" and how order statuses move between states. Not editable by anyone at your organization. |
| Org-Level Definitions | Your admin | Your organization's own defaults, which apply to everyone on your team — for example, a default tone. Overrides Base Rules where the two conflict. |
| User Preferences | You | Your personal settings, private to your account, layered on top of your org's defaults. |
As WizPilot puts it on the User Preferences page itself: your admin sets the rules, you set the style. If your org's default tone is Professional but you prefer Formal, WizPilot uses Formal for you, without changing anything for your teammates.
D. Custom Instructions
Custom Instructions are where you tell WizPilot exactly how you want it to work with you, beyond just tone. This is free text, up to 3,000 characters, and it applies to every conversation going forward.
For example, you might tell WizPilot to always explain things in depth rather than answering in short, jargon-heavy sentences, or to include a diagram alongside any table it shows you.
To Add Custom Instructions:
- Click + Add New to add an instruction, or Reset to default to clear your customizations and fall back to your org's defaults.

- Add custom instruction(s) and click Save.

E. Base Style & Tone
Set the style and tone WizPilot uses when it responds to you. This only changes how WizPilot communicates, it doesn't change what WizPilot is able to do for you.
Open User Preferences → Base Style & Tone and choose from:
- Professional
- Friendly
- Casual
- Concise
- Formal
- Witty
- Empathetic
Select an option and click Save. If you want to go back to your organization's default at any time, select Reset to default.

FAQs
1. If I set a preference, does WizPilot stop showing me the full picture?
A. No. A preference only changes what's shown to you first. WizPilot still fetches everything every time. Nothing is hidden by a setting you made previously.
2. Can I make WizPilot sound like me instead of a generic chatbot?
A. Yes. Choose from seven tone options — Professional, Friendly, Casual, Concise, Formal, Witty, or Empathetic — under Base Style & Tone. You can also give WizPilot more specific instructions about how you want it to respond under Custom Instructions.
3. Who can change the Base Rules or Org-level settings?
A. Base Rules are set by WizCommerce and are not editable by anyone at your organization. Org-level definitions are set by your admin, typically in Org Settings.
4. Do my Custom Instructions apply to every conversation, or just the one I'm in?
A. Every conversation. Once saved, your Custom Instructions apply to all future chats with WizPilot, you don't need to repeat them each time.
5. Can I set User Preferences from my phone?
A. Not yet. User Preferences is available on desktop and web at this release; mobile and tablet support is not yet live.
