Can Ella handle unit-of-measure conversions, such as Kg to Pounds?
Yes. Ella converts units automatically during PO processing and normalises every incoming order to your standard unit, so your ERP always receives clean, consistent data regardless of what unit the buyer used on their PO.
» How it is set up
Your standard unit is configured once during onboarding. For example, if your ERP runs in imperial (pounds), you set pounds as the tenant default. From that point, every PO that comes in using a different unit (say, a buyer who sends quantities in kilograms) is automatically converted before the draft order is created. The rep sees the converted value on the draft, alongside the original value from the PO, so there is full transparency.
Kg ↔ lbs conversion is built in and available out of the box. For other units (like oz, gallons, litres, metres, and feet) the conversion table can be extended by the Forward Deployed Engineering team on request during or after onboarding.
» What computed weight can drive
Beyond the conversion itself, Ella calculates the total order weight in real time on the draft. This computed weight can be used to trigger business rules. For example:
- "If total weight exceeds 500 lbs, ship FedEx only."
- "If total weight exceeds 200 kg, apply a 5% transportation surcharge."
These rules are configured in Prompt Management in plain language. The computed weight also pushes to your ERP, so downstream systems receive the normalised number automatically.
» Things to keep in mind
- The tenant default unit is set during onboarding. If you need to change it after go-live, reach out to your implementation contact.
- If a PO comes in with units that disagree with your tenant default, Ella can be configured via Prompt Management to surface a warning on the draft rather than converting silently, so mismatches are always visible to the rep before submission.
- Extensions for non-standard units (beyond Kg ↔ lbs) require a request to the Forward Deployed Engineering team and are typically handled during onboarding.
